Open Records Request

 

Right-To-Know Law

Signed on February 14, 2008, the Right-To-Know Law fundamentally changed the way people access public records of their government.

Harrison Township designates the Township Manager as the Right to Know Officer.  All requests for documents must be submitted in writing via mail, email, or in person.  Upon receipt of the written request by the Right-To-Know Officer, the designated employee shall respond to the requester in writing within five (5) business days consistent with Act 3 of 2008.

The Township shall make a good-faith effort to provide the requested public records as quickly as possible The Open Records Officer shall cooperate with those requesting records o review and/or duplicate original documents while taking reasonable measure to preserve Township documents from the possibility of damage, modification, or theft.

If access to a record is denied, the response shall include a reason for denial as stipulated in Act 3.

 

Fees

Paper copies shall be $0.25 per page per side. The certification of a records is $1 per record. Specialized documents including, but not limited to blueprints, color copies, and non-standard sized documents shall be charge the actual cost of production. If mailing is requested, the cost of postage will be charged. The Township shall require prepayment if the total fees are estimated to exceed $100.00.

If a written request is denied or deemed denied, the requester may file an appeal in writing to: Office of Open Records, 333 Market Street, 16th Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17101-2234. Appeals may also be filed online at the Office of Open Records website.

For denials of criminal records of a local agency, you have the right to file an appeal in writing to Allegheny County District Attorney, Allegheny County Courthouse, 436 Grant Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
